ABOUT THE FOUNDER

John J. McGrath III
President, Stonehaven Homes

John McGrath III started in the construction and home building business at 15 years old, working in the summer while in high school for his father, who was a highly respected brick mason. During his college summer vacations, Mr. McGrath worked for the same company, which had started building residential developments consisting of single homes and townhomes. Upon graduation from college, Mr. McGrath worked as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Estimator and eventually advanced to finance, raising equity and debt for the company’s projects while serving as Senior Executive Vice President. In 2013, Mr. McGrath III decided it was time to go out on his own and Stonehaven Homes was born.

Stonehaven Homes is based in Wayne and is focused on developing communities in Chester, Delaware, Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Stonehaven Homes continues to grow and currently has a mixture of exciting new projects in process or seeking approval, featuring open concept interiors with updated, traditional exteriors. For over 25 years, Mr. McGrath has built virtually every type of home at a variety of price points, including single-family homes ranging from 2,600 s.f. to 15,000 s.f., as well as townhomes, quads, and small commercial projects.

John McGrath III has raised over $350 million in debt and equity, and has been involved in developing more than 950 residential units, valued over $440 million in total sales. He has been involved in every aspect of entitlement, design, construction, finance and marketing.

John comes from a long line of developers, architects and engineers. His father, John McGrath Jr., owns and operates a homebuilding company, and his grandfather, John McGrath Sr., was an engineer for Rohm and Haas. His great grandfather Henry A. “Harry” McGrath was an architect who helped design many buildings in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. “Harry” McGrath was Chief Draftsman for 30 years for Price & McLanahan, which then became McLanahan and Bencker, and finally, Ralph B. Bencker Architects.

Mr. McGrath currently resides in Villanova with his wife Alexis and 2 children. His wife Alexis works for Berkshire Hathaway, out of the Rosemont office, and markets and sells all of Stonehaven’s properties. Mr. McGrath enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his children’s sports teams, exercise and travel.
